Cathy Beauchamp was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico and migrated to New York City in the summer of 1957, and lived in “El Barrio” until 1969. Since then, she has made The Bronx her home.
Cathy began making her own hand crafted, one of a kind, jewelry pieces in August 2015. This venture into jewelry making was the result of gathering various broken sets of jewelry, which she had carefully saved. They were precious to her, which led her to pursue how to repair them. She went to a basic jewelry making course and made her first creation, which she wore to a wedding.
There, a guest complimented her on the necklace and asked where she had purchased it, to which she responded, that she made it herself. The guest asked if she could make one for her. She realized that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, and so began the creation of Gems by Beau.
Since then, she has learned various methods of completing each created piece. Each individual piece Cathy creates is an expression of her love of the art of jewelry making. It gives her great inner satisfaction to know someone purchased one of her pieces and they receive compliments from their peers.
Cathy takes pride in providing quality pieces of jewelry at reasonable prices. She guarantees every piece she makes. Jewelry making is her passion. It gives her great inner enjoyment to make various types of pieces, from beaded stones, glass, ceramic, shells, clay, and kumihimo.
